Kakimori Pen Rest
A pen rest that enhances the moments between writing. Designed to hold any pen without the need for precise placement, it blends effortlessly into your desk space with a subtle but assured presence.
Kakimori sought to create a nib that functions like a glass pen, with reliable production and supply. After considering numerous possibilities of materials, the Metal nib was born. The innovative machined form offers diverse line variation that caters for drawing as well as writing.
The metal nib was born from a desire for a durable and practical dip pen nib. Enjoy a variety of line widths from fine to broad by tilting the nib at different angles. Fits most nib holders as well as those from our range.
The nib was designed by Yuto Yamazaki of Kuramae-based design studio Alloy. The nib tip has been rounded and polished with meticulous care, providing a remarkably smooth writing experience that defies expectation. Perfected over many iterations, the innovative nib is like no other.
Designed for stability to ensure your pens and surfaces are protected from accidental movement or damage. The pen rest comfortably holds two to three slender pens.
Sakura: Enjoy the rich texture and wood grain of Japanese cherry. Can be matched with a sakura nib holder and ink bottle cap
Urushi: The fuki-urushi technique enhances the elegant wood grain of Japanese cherry. Fuki-urushi is a traditional Japanese lacquering technique that is also widely used in historic architecture. The pen rest is first dyed with sumi ink before being overlaid with black lacquer to showcase the beauty of both the lacquer and the wood grain. The simplicity of the matt lacquer complements any desk, while pairing beautifully with Japanese cherry and aluminium nib holders. The presence of glossy surface speckles are due to a build-up of urushi lacquer in the wood fibres
Tokushima Indigo: Indigo dyed in the traditional Japanese method of aizome. The natural beauty of the wood grain is accentuated by the deep indigo finish. Each pen rest is hand dyed by an indigo artisan and finished with beeswax for a touch of softness. The colour will gently fade with time and use. The simple elegance of indigo dyeing complements any space.
